Seed also supports educators and partner institutions through a diverse and complementary package of services aimed at advancing health professional education in the classroom and clinical setting. Position Summary:

The Director of Nursing and Midwifery contributes his/her energy, passion, and skills primarily to supporting Seed’s team in the US and abroad. The position is a full-time position based in Boston. The Director of Nursing and Midwifery designs, leads and supports a Seed nursing and midwifery strategy at headquarters in collaboration with the full team and, in particular, with input from the Nursing and Midwifery Advisors in Malawi and Uganda. This full-time position reports to the Managing Director of Program and Operations and works closely with all domestic and international team members.

Duties and Responsibilities:
In collaboration with relevant team members, responsibilities include the following:

  • Provides leadership in the development, implementation, evaluation and dissemination of Seed nursing and midwifery strategy and activities across education, practice and policy
    • Represents and advocates for nursing and midwifery as a part of Leadership Team
    • Collaborates with team members to support alignment of nursing and midwifery activities and strategy across all departments
    • Works closely with in-country staff and partners for planning, implementation and evaluation of partnership work plans
    • Identifies and develops local and international partnerships to contribute to nursing and midwifery partnership work plans
    • Disseminates the outcomes of Seed nursing and midwifery partnerships and activities through webinars, manuscripts, conferences and speaking engagements
    • Conducts in-country visits with academic, clinical and policy stakeholders in the development and support of partnership work plans
    • Develops and tracks budget and workplan for nursing and midwifery
    • Successfully designs and manages a recruitment strategy for Seed Nursing Educators within midwifery, pediatrics, emergency care and mental health
    • Help formulate nursing and midwifery education policy and thought leadership platform in partnership with CEO, MDPO, country Nursing and Midwifery advisors and other members of the team


  • Creates and leads an effective Seed Clinical Nursing and Midwifery Team
    • Builds a clinical team which 1) aligns with in-country clinical priorities 2) effectively recruits and supports educators in the field, and 3) provides meaningful contributions to relevant partnership work plans.
    • Identifies opportunities for interprofessional collaboration with Seed’s medicine team and partnerships
    • Encourages and supports the teams exploration, initiation and building of academic partnerships which enhance in country partnership activities and goals
    • Encourages dissemination of work through publications, webinars and presentations in collaboration with other team members and partners
    • Engages nursing and midwifery team to contribute to Educator orientation
    • Supports opportunities for nursing and midwifery team professional development and growth


  • Collaborates closely with Seed Nursing and Midwifery Advisors in partner countries
    • Advocate for and support Nursing and Midwifery Advisors
    • Leverage Advisor’s expertise to inform nursing and midwifery strategic plans across the organization
    • Provides technical guidance and thought leadership to Malawi and Uganda nursing and midwifery policy and partnership strategies
    • Work closely with the Seed Nursing and Midwifery Advisers to provide technical and professional support to Seed Educators
    • Collaborate with Seed Nursing and Midwifery Advisors to support recruitment of Seed Educators

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including flexibility and a sense of humor
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Experience writing for publication (articles, blogs, etc.)
  • Demonstrated cross-cultural sensitivity and ability to build respectful relationships with colleagues from different cultural, linguistic, and educational backgrounds
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced and young organization
  • Experience as an educator in the classroom, skills/simulation lab, clinical arena
  • Experience living/working in limited resourced environments for extended period of time
  • Masters and/or PhD preferred
  • Comfortable using Google Suite and Microsoft Office Applications

Working Conditions:

  • Will be based in Boston (remote or in person, depending on public health guidance and restrictions)
  • Once approved, will be expected to travel domestically and/or internationally several times per year
